Wanted thrifty shoppers and garage sale goodies! On Friday, August 8th from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm and Saturday, August 9th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, Harbor House Memory Care will host a City-Wide Thrift Sale to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The sale will take place at 4028 Clay Street in Eau Claire, Wisconsin with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association - Greater Wisconsin Chapter of Eau Claire.

Last year, this thrift sale raised over $1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association, thanks to the more than 40 families who donated items and the hundreds of people who came to shop and make donations in memory and honor of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. “It was a tremendous success,” said Paula Gibson, Community Relations Director for Harbor House Memory Care. “However, with the baby boomers coming of age, the number of people being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease is expected to increase dramatically. One of the many reasons why Harbor House Memory Care is committed to helping the Alzheimer’s Association perform research, provide education and find a cure for this horrible disease.”

One way for individuals and groups to get involved in this fight is to donate gently used items to the City-Wide Thrift Sale. “One of the most treasured items we received last year was a blue coat,” explained Gibson. “It was given by a woman who had only a few items to donate. Before giving us that blue coat, she told us that her mother had died of Alzheimer’s disease 3 years earlier and that this had been her coat. She had held on to it as a memory of her mother. She explained that when she heard about the sale she wanted to help in some way and said that by giving us the coat, she felt that she was paying tribute to her mom. Her story was inspiring because it, along with countless other donations, came straight from the heart.” As a result the Harbor House Memory Care Team chipped in and bought that blue coat as a symbol of inspiration and memorial to all of the blue coats that they help serve every day.

If you are interested in donating gently used items to be sold at the sale, donations can be dropped off from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm at 4028 Clay Street on Tuesday, August 5th through Thursday, August 7th. All donated items are tax deductible. Any items which remain after the sale will be donated to the Salvation Army. Unfortunately, the following items will not be accepted for donation: typewriters; computers; word processors; washers; dryers; dishwashers; stoves; tires; refrigerators; grills; freezers; microwaves; magazines; baby cribs exercise equipment, tools, and non-working electrical items. Please contact Paula Gibson at (715) 832-6696 for more information or volunteer.

Harbor House Memory Care’s homelike setting provides a safe, loving and secure environment for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in the Eau Claire area. As a result of nearly two decades of work in assisted living facilities and memory specific care Harbor House is “committed to providing loving family service through inspired leadership.” If you are interested in learning more about Harbor House Memory Care, please contact Paula Gibson, Community Relations Director at (715) 832-6696 or logon to www.harborassisted.com.
